August/11/2017 Congratulations to Patrick for his PhD defense in Purdue!!
August/03/2017 We welcomed Dani! Dani joined us and will work on a project where we apply/compare treelets, PCA, and other clustering methods for estimating population structure from genetic data.
July/07/2017 I’m very happy to share several news from the group. Emery and Yash are doing internships for the summer (Emery at Illumina; Yash at Google). Israa continues working on our probabilistic splicing project and she stays in our collaborator Canzar’s lab in Munich, Germany. Nathan has moved to a Statistical Analyst position at Medpace. Sicheng has moved to a Research Assistant position at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and will join
Vitek lab from this fall. Nathan and Sicheng, best wishes for your next positions! I also have moved to Melbourne this June! First, I would like to thank my colleagues at Purdue for all of their support and friendship over the past two years. Time has come for a next chapter in my career. I’m very excited to start the new chapter in Melbourne.
1/09/2017 Welcome to Israa and Yash. Israa and Yash joined us this semester and will develop the software for probabilistic splicing models.
11/21/2016 Welcome to Patrick and Nathan. Patrick and I have been developing wavelets-based approaches to genetic association analysis of topological data. Nathan did a reading class with me this fall semester. Nathan will join the lab and work on a project where we develop statistical approaches to RNA-seq data analyses (e.g., alternative splicing).
6/29/2016 “BayesCAT: Bayesian Co-estimation of Alignment and Tree” has been accepted at Biometrics.
6/26/2016 We have been organizing two journal clubs with other labs: deep learning JC and Phylogenetics/Stochastic Processes Journal Club. Feel free to email me if you’d like to join (even for a particular paper) or you have any suggestions for papers. You can find links to those JCs in meetings page.
6/7/2016 riboHMM paper is now out in eLife [link]
2/9/2016 Welcome to Emery and Sicheng. Emery and I start a project where we consider multi-scale models to cluster functional data from high-throughput sequencing assays. Potential applications include clustering different patterns of (co)transcription factor binding across regions or tissues using ATAC-seq data (collaborating with Roger and Francesca) and clustering gene expression patterns across tissues using RNA-seq data. Sicheng will help me with HMT (hidden Markov Tree prior) project. Welcome!
2/9/2016 Heejung teaches stat 512 Applied Regression Analysis in Spring 2016.

10/26/2015 I’m going to visit Dr. Fernando Quintana at Dec 21 and 22. During my visit, I’ll be giving a seminar in Department of Statistics at Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and catching up with Dr. Peter Mueller and Dr. Yuan Ji who also visit Dr Quintana during those days. I’m very looking forward to the visit and getting feedback on multi-scale clustering of high-throughput sequencing data.
